As part of stepped-up initiatives in the Chinese marketplace, ACE*COMM CEO George Jimenez recently presided over a "Mediation Road Show" and sales-related events in Beijing to highlight the business benefits of Convergent Mediation technology to Chinese carriers coping with increasing levels of network traffic and complex network infrastructures. Over 100 media and telecom personnel attended a special presentation on the benefits of mediation technology for the Chinese telecom marketplace.
China will invest US $60-billion to upgrade its telecommunications networks by 2005; US $500-million of this will be used to upgrade data collection and billing systems, and for mediation projects. This is a significant opportunity for ACE*COMM. The Company's Convergent Mediation technology is well suited to the market requirements in this region for itemized billing, real-time data collection for the deployment of new services, and the rapid growth in subscriber bases.

Firms Pursue Opportunities in China
Potomac Tech Journal April 15, 2002 (print edition)
“Maryland telecommunications companies are turning to China, hoping to sell services and wares that have saturated the U.S. market… The lure of China – a nation with 1.3-billion people that has enjoyed an annual economic growth rate in recent years in the range of 7 percent – has increased since its admission last December into the World Trade Organization. That promises to increase intellectual property protections and lower foreign business barriers…
“We are making a very significant investment in China,” said George Jimenez, chief executive officer of Gaithersburg, MD-based ACE*COMM, a telecom billing software company that has established offices in Shanghai and Beijing this year. “It’s basically a growth strategy for us, to bridge us over the downturn in the U.S. … ACE*COMM derives about 3 percent of its revenue from China and expects to increase that to 25 percent over the next three years – a goal that could be aided by the Chinese government’s initiative to require detailed telephone bills, something that is not yet prevalent there,” Jimenez said.
Too Much Information? Mediation Systems Tackle Barrage of IP Network Usage Data
XCHANGE
“Mediation vendors appear to have laid down a solid foundation for matching new services with real resources used – a critical benchmark in bringing OSS up to speed with the ability to deliver new applications... to reach the goal of collecting the right data from so many highly distributed points across multiple networks, mediation players including Intec, Openet, ACE*COMM Corp., Narus Inc. and XACCT Technologies Inc. have devoted much innovation to developing adapters to their systems that can be implemented rapidly in any old or new device...”
Such is the aim of a deal reached in October between ACE*COMM and end-to-end Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) service solutions provider Ubiquity Software Corp. They will optimize ACE*COMM's Convergent Mediation™ software for Ubiquity's Helmsman Application Services Broker and Network Server platforms, targeted to service providers building packet-based network infrastructures. The deal will help packet network service providers more easily create and deploy convergent communications services from the network core to end-user desktops, without disruption to existing OSS systems.
